Appliance Electricity Cost Calculator
Estimate daily, monthly and annual electricity use and cost for an appliance from its power, hours of use and electricity price. Enter your usage and energy price for a planning estimate.
Quick math
Use this for quick arithmetic, percentages, or to check figures while filling in the main tool, without leaving the page.
Estimate
Estimated annual cost: 1,643 NOK
- Daily electricity use
- 3.00 kWh
- Annual electricity use
- 1,095 kWh
- Daily cost
- 5 NOK
- Annual cost
- 1,643 NOK
- Monthly cost
- 137 NOK
Assumes the appliance draws its rated power for all entered operating hours. Thermostats and standby use can change actual consumption.
How to use this tool
- Use Appliance Electricity Cost Calculator for the question described above, and check that the inputs match your records and time period.
- Enter appliance power (Use rated power in watts.).
- Enter hours used per day (Average time running each day.).
- Enter days used per year (Enter zero for an appliance not used year-round.).
- Enter all-in electricity price (Include the bill components you want to compare.).
- Change appliance power, hours used per day, days used per year, all-in electricity price to compare scenarios, then check the units in the result.
Worked example with the prefilled values
This example shows how Appliance Electricity Cost Calculator uses its starting values. Change the calculator inputs to estimate your own situation.
- Appliance power
- 1000 W
- Hours used per day
- 3 hours
- Days used per year
- 365 days
- All-in electricity price
- 1.5 NOK/kWh
Estimated annual cost: 1,643 NOK
- Daily electricity use3.00 kWh
- Annual electricity use1,095 kWh
- Daily cost5 NOK
- Annual cost1,643 NOK
- Monthly cost137 NOK
Assumes the appliance draws its rated power for all entered operating hours. Thermostats and standby use can change actual consumption.
Formula and calculation logic
Daily kWh = watts ÷ 1,000 × hours per day
Annual kWh = daily kWh × days used
Annual cost = annual kWh × all-in price
Daily kWh = appliance watts ÷ 1,000 × hours used per day. Annual kWh multiplies daily use by days used; cost multiplies energy by your all-in price.
Assumptions
- Assumes rated power for every entered running hour. Thermostat cycling, variable power, standby consumption, and fixed bill charges are excluded.

Questions about this tool
How can I get a more accurate appliance estimate?
Use measured average consumption from a plug-in meter when possible. Rated watts multiplied by hours assumes the appliance runs at full power throughout.
