Panel Heater Electricity Cost Tool
Calculate the estimated electricity cost of running a panel heater. Enter your usage and energy price for a planning estimate.
Quick math
Use this for quick arithmetic, percentages, or to check figures while filling in the main tool, without leaving the page.
Estimate
Estimated annual cost: 2,190 NOK
- Annual cost
- 2,190 NOK
- Monthly cost
- 183 NOK
- Annual use
- 1,460 kWh
Assumes the same usage and electricity price throughout the year.
How to use this tool
- Use Panel Heater Electricity Cost Tool for the question described above, and check that the inputs match your records and time period.
- Enter heater power (Rated power.).
- Enter hours per day (Average time switched on per day.).
- Enter average heating level (Thermostat cycling means average use can be below rated power.).
- Enter electricity price (Energy price including the parts you want to include.).
- Change heater power, hours per day, average heating level, electricity price to compare scenarios, then check the units in the result.
Worked example with the prefilled values
This example shows how Panel Heater Electricity Cost Tool uses its starting values. Change the calculator inputs to estimate your own situation.
- Heater power
- 1 kW
- Hours per day
- 8 h/day
- Average heating level
- 50 %
- Electricity price
- 1.5 NOK/kWh
Estimated annual cost: 2,190 NOK
- Annual cost2,190 NOK
- Monthly cost183 NOK
- Annual use1,460 kWh
Assumes the same usage and electricity price throughout the year.
Formula and calculation logic
Annual electricity (kWh) = rated power × hours per day × 365 × average heating level ÷ 100
Annual cost = annual electricity × price per kWh
Annual energy multiplies rated kilowatts by hours per day, 365 days, and the average heating level percentage. Cost uses your entered price per kilowatt-hour.
Assumptions
- The heating-level percentage approximates thermostat cycling. Room temperature, insulation, weather, and heater control behavior are not simulated.

Questions about this tool
What does the average heating level represent?
It approximates the share of rated power used over time as the thermostat switches the heater on and off. The room, insulation, outdoor temperature, and thermostat setting affect that share.
