Formula and calculation logic

Freight per unit = total freight ÷ units; insurance per unit = goods cost × insurance rate

Duty per unit = (goods + freight + insurance) × duty rate

Landed cost per unit = goods + freight + insurance + duty + clearance fees per unit + packaging

Suggested pre-VAT price = landed cost ÷ (1 − target margin); shown VAT-inclusive price = pre-VAT price × 1.25

Freight and shipment fees are divided evenly across the units in the shipment. Insurance is calculated as a percentage of goods cost.

Customs duty is applied to goods, freight and insurance. Packaging is then added per unit to get landed cost.

When you enter a target margin, the suggested price is calculated before VAT. The customer price adds 25% VAT.

Assumptions

  • All cost inputs use the same currency and are entered excluding VAT.
  • The customs duty rate and VAT rate are entered or assumed for planning; actual rates depend on the goods and destination.
  • Target margin means margin as a share of the selling price, not a markup on cost. Leave it blank to calculate landed cost only.
