Estimate

Estimated annual shower cost: 1,372 NOK

Energy per shower
2.51 kWh
Annual cost
1,372 NOK
Monthly cost
114 NOK

Uses 1.163 Wh to heat one litre of water by one degree. Heat losses and water-heating system are simplified.

How to use this tool

  1. Use Shower Electricity Cost Tool for the question described above, and check that the inputs match your records and time period.
  2. Enter shower duration (Duration per shower.).
  3. Enter water flow (Flow rate at the shower head.).
  4. Enter water temperature rise (Hot-water temperature minus incoming-water temperature.).
  5. Enter showers per week (Household total.).
  6. Enter electricity price (Average marginal electricity price.).
  7. Change shower duration, water flow, water temperature rise, showers per week, electricity price to compare scenarios, then check the units in the result.

Electricity price
1.5 NOK/kWh

Estimated annual shower cost: 1,372 NOK

  • Energy per shower2.51 kWh
  • Annual cost1,372 NOK
  • Monthly cost114 NOK

Uses 1.163 Wh to heat one litre of water by one degree. Heat losses and water-heating system are simplified.

Formula and calculation logic

Energy per shower (kWh) = minutes × flow (litres/minute) × temperature rise (°C) × 0.001163

Annual energy = energy per shower × showers per week × 52; annual cost = annual energy × price per kWh

Water volume is flow rate × shower minutes. Energy uses 1.163 watt-hours to heat one litre of water by one degree, then scales by showers per week and 52 weeks.

Assumptions

  • The estimate excludes pipe and tank losses, flow variation, mixing at the tap, and hot-water system efficiency. Use it to compare scenarios, not to predict a meter reading.

Questions about this tool

Why is the result different from the electricity used by my hot-water system?

This estimate covers the energy to heat the shower water from the temperature rise you enter. It excludes tank and pipe losses, mixing, and hot-water system efficiency.
