Formula and calculation logic
Benefit basis = min(annual income, 6 × basic amount)
Weekly benefit = benefit basis × selected coverage percentage ÷ 100 ÷ 52
Illustrated period total = weekly benefit × configured weeks for the selected coverage
The income basis is capped at six times the National Insurance basic amount (6 G). Enter annual income before leave to see the capped basis.
For one child, the standard period is 49 weeks at 100% or 61 weeks and one day at 80%. The estimator uses 61.2 weeks for the latter period.
The weekly estimate applies the selected coverage rate to the capped income basis and divides it across 52 weeks. The total multiplies that weekly amount by the selected period.

Questions about this tool
Does this tell me if I qualify?
No. NAV checks income, membership, and earning requirements for your situation.
Why is income capped at 6 G?
NAV's standard parental benefit basis is limited to six times the National Insurance basic amount. An employer may have separate arrangements above that level.
Why is the 80% period longer?
NAV lists 61 weeks and one day at 80% for one child, compared with 49 weeks at 100%. The total payout is approximately equal when both parents qualify.
